The human hair grows in layers. The outer layer is called the "cuticle" which consists of a group of spherical cells that lie on the surface of the hair. Cuticle hair, also referred to as "Remy" hair, is aligned in the same direction like the tiles on a roof with the free edges directed towards the ends. Because hair extensions do not have the protective follicle (the cavity which holds the hair root) attached to them cuticle hair is crucial for hair extensions to lock in essential moisture and protect it against outside elements. Cuticle hair is more than a protective layer of hair as the cuticle gives the shiny glossy appearance (also referred to as "Sedu" hair) most people strive for. Cuticle hair is soft, healthy and all of the hair strands are aligned in the same direction. Non-cuticle hair is hair that is collected from loose hair strands on hair brushes and even from the floors of hair salons. It is very dull, tangles and mats easily and looks like straw after the first shampoo.
Wefted hair is used for braiding, weaving and bonding. It is supplied as a strip of hair and either machine sewn together or hand tied.
Hand Tied Hair (or hand sewn) This hair weft has a thinner area where the hair is sewn together resulting in a more natural appearance and the band can barely be felt by the touch. Hand sewn hair, however, is harder to work with and recommended application be done by a professional hair extensionist.
Machine Sewn Weft This type of weft is made by sewing the hair strands together with a special machine. Though the band is somewhat bulkier than the hand sewn wefts machine sewn wefts are easier to handle.
Skin Wefts Skin wefts are similar to the hand tied wefts except the hair strands are placed together using a special tape. This type of hair extensions are the best available and are virtually invisible. They are, however, difficult to handle and very expensive. Usually sold by the piece as skin wefts cannot be cut.

the fusion ring to hold the extension onto the natural hair. This type hair extensions holds very well and lasts a long time.
U-StrandsThe U-strand is a pre-tipped hair extension that allows the glue to mold completely around your natural hair and it lasts
longer than the
I-strands. They require a heat attachment method using a fusion iron and use a keratin based glue. It is recommended an
extensionist apply this type hair extensions and usually lasts about 2-3 months.
